This black forest smoothie is actually a healthier chocolate cherry smoothie. Anything chocolate and healthier, count me in! This smoothie recipe is so so simple, yet so decadent and delicious. You might even forget that it is a smoothie and think you are drinking some kind of milkshake or a dessert.

Black forest cake is one of my favorites. The rich combination of cherries, chocolate and sweet cream. India, you get the best black forest cakes even in small bakeries, maybe because they are sweeter, the cream is creamier or whatever. Even if the ones here are not as great, they are still one of my favorite kinds of cakes, other than tres leches and plain simple chocolate cake. Ok, ok, I like a lot of cakes!! Most of them, actually.

Tips for making great smoothies:

Whenever I share smoothies on my Instagram stories, I always get asked for tips on how to make smoothies with the right consistency. Here are a few things I do to get the right consistency always

  1. Add banana - it not only adds that much needed creaminess to smoothies and bring everything else together to create the right consistency, it also adds some sweetness to the smoothie that you never need to add any other sweetener to your smoothie.
  2. Liquid - start with little. Blend everything together and if you feel that your smoothie is too thick, add about a ¼ cup more of the liquid and do one more quick blend. Keep adding the liquid in ¼ cup increments and keep blending after each addition to incorporate the liquid well into the smoothie.
  3. If you don't want to use ice and risk thinning out the smoothie too much, try and freeze the fruit you are adding to the smoothie. This makes the smoothie cold and gives it that smooth consistency as well.
