Deliciously chewy chocolate chip cookies with mini MnMs in it as a surprise bite! The kind of cookies your kids will enjoy baking with you and eating
Do you cook or bake with your kids? If not, I strongly suggest that you start it now. Yes, I agree it can get a little messy and may take more time than what you originally anticipated and so on. I am a cleanliness and order obsessed person and I often wondered, when V was a baby, how I will ever get over all that to let him help out in the kitchen. As much as I wanted him to get in the kitchen, play around and “help” me, the thought of all that mess petrified me! But I knew that was something I had to get over with. I am so thankful that I did and eventhough it really is a lot messy, it definitely is a lot more fun for both V and me. He loves to help me in the kitchen and often comes and asks me if he can do something. He calls the KitchenAid “Kitchenator” and even has his own mini “kitchenator” that we got for him last Christmas.
I mostly get him to help operate the stand mixer, the Ninja blender that I have and to pour and mix things. I have slowly started to let him put things in a pan and to stir holding my hands. I am a little wary of that as I don’t want him to burn his hands by getting something splattered on him, but still allow him to do it very carefully and always add a lot less oil at the beginning than what is required and then add more.
That’s V looking into the mixer bowl while it mixes all the ingredients for the cookies!!!
We baked together some chocolate chip MnM cookies over the holidays to take to V’s daycare for his teachers and he loved baking with me. Well, it was one of those “ I enjoy cooking with MnMs, sometimes I even put it in the baking mix” kinda baking. (remember the Julia Child quote “ I enjoy cooking with wine, sometimes I even put it in my food”) He ate a whole lot of MnMs in the process Thankfully, we had enough to put in the cookies as well.
Chocolate Chip MnM Cookies – The Recipe
Ingredients:
- 2 sticks butter, room temperature
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 2 eggs
- 2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 3 cups all purpose flour
- ¼ teaspoon seasalt
- 1 ¼ teaspoon baking soda
- 1 ¼ teaspoon baking powder
- 1 cup semi sweet chocolate chips
- 1 cup milk
- 1 cup mini mnms
Method:
Preheat oven to 360F.
Mix together the flour, sea salt, baking soda and baking powder and keep aside.
Cream the butter and sugar in your stand mixer, till just about mixed. Add the eggs one by one and beat in well. Add the vanilla extract and let it mix well.
Add half of the dry ingredients, while the mixer is running on low speed and once they are incorporated into the mixture, add half of the milk. Let it mix well and now add the rest of the dry ingredients and then the remaining milk. Now switch off the mixer and add the semi sweet chocolate chips and the MnMs. Mix with a spatula and let rest.
Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper and scoop out 1 tablespoon of the cookie mixture onto the sheet, one at a time and flatten it a little with your hands. Make sure to leave enough space between the cookies as they expand while baking.
Pop into the oven and bake for about 10 minutes or until the edges are browned a little. Remove from the baking sheet and cool on a wire rack completely before storing.

I love how your having your little guy help you with recipes 🙂 My daughter has been occasionally helping me (& by helping, I really mean, eating) with cookie recipes for a while now too & she's always so excited about it! I love how you wrapped up the cookies in twine 🙂 Nice, special touch!

Kids and baking are a wonderful match! My kids have been helping me in the kitchen since they were each two (now they are 8 and 11) and it's been SO wonderful all these years. These cookies look like so much fun, and so delicious!

How tasty! Are the mini m&m's just the regular candy ones or the ones you get in the baking section?
Manju says
They are the regular candy ones! I couldn't get regular sized ones, they had only peanut butter mnms so I bought the mini ones. You can use the regular sized ones too.
